Department Summary:
The Community Organizing and External Relations Department (COER) deepens UJA’s impact by aligning our Government and External relations work alongside UJA’s planning activities. Specifically, COER is responsible for 1) Deepening UJA’s relationships with key elected officials as well as government, community, and foundation leaders 2) Leveraging UJA’s government relations expertise to advance key UJA and Jewish communal priorities 3) Increasing UJA’s visibility around key public policy issues and expanding our network of partners 4) Advancing UJA’s work and strengthening Jewish life and community within local neighborhoods.
Position Summary:
The Planning Associate will be responsible for working alongside the Senior Vice President of the Community Strategy and External Relations (COER) team and the Director, Foundation Partnerships on leading strategic initiatives and special projects. This includes planning COER programs, such as convenings and committee meetings, assisting with research and data management, and liaising across multiple departments within UJA and externally. This role will have high visibility both within UJA and outside of the organization, including with major donors and foundations, New York City and New York State government agencies, and UJA grantees. The activities of this team are fast-paced, dynamic, and relationship-driven - the Planning Associate will need to be proactive, able to adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and comfortable communicating with a diverse range of colleagues.
Major Responsibilities:
Support projects for the Senior Vice President, Community Strategy and External Relations, such as:
Staffing UJA’s Antisemitism Advisory Committee, which includes working closely with lay leadership and sourcing new projects
Generating and executing new ideas to advance the mission of COER – ideas include but are not limited to, new public partnerships and large-scale convenings around our priority areas.
Strategize and execute UJA’s role in supporting programming for the many Israel trips that UJA funds
Support projects for the Director, Foundation Partnerships, such as:
Developing and updating research on foundations funding in areas like UJA, as well as broader philanthropic trends.
Maximizing UJA’s information systems capabilities to improve and professionalize UJA’s work with foundations, including prospect tracking.
Working across various teams at UJA to build successful grant proposals, and assisting with grant writing and reporting tasks for special projects where needed.
Plan committee and group meetings, programs and/or convenings including recommending and securing content experts, preparing agendas, and following up with participants.
Keep the team up to date with input to UJA’s information systems including meeting participation lists and notes, grantee information, and donor/foundation research.
Competencies/Experience:
At least two years of related work experience.
Familiarity with the general makeup of the Jewish community in New York.
Ability to communicate clearly with various stakeholders.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to take initiative to ensure tasks get completed successfully.
Superior attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple tasks, and shift priorities when needed in a fast-paced environment.
Highly organized, efficient, and able to create and maintain systems that facilitate departmental management
Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills and positive attitude
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Bachelor's degree preferred
Full working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and SharePoint
Salary Information:
The annual salary for this role is $60,000.
