Zioness Movement Fall Organizing 2023 Fellowship

Program Details: The Fall Organizing Fellowship program will officially launch on September 15th and will end on December 15th. Fellows are expected to maintain a  fixed weekly schedule, with a minimum weekly time commitment of 15 hours per week.

Zioness is able to offer a $1,500/month stipend and/or academic credit/community services hours - when applicable. 

Start and end dates for this program are negotiable.

Location: This is a remote opportunity that is open to candidates anywhere in the US.

Overview:   Fall Organizing Fellows will participate in a rigorous 3 month grassroots organizing program focused on building a robust and sustainable community engagement program. Organizing Fellows will engage members of their communities - specifically progressive Jews and allies - in grassroots organizing efforts to impact some of the most critical issues of our time. Organizing Fellows will have the opportunity to learn grassroots organizing skills and will play a key role in building a first of its kind community engagement program aimed at building volunteer leadership at the local level, effecting change on core progressive issues, and effectively confronting on antisemitism/anti-Zionism anywhere it presents itself. Fellows will work closely with other progressive groups to build relationships and execute unique programs.

General Expectations:

  • The Candidate has a deep passion for progressive issues and for Zionism, and is deeply motivated to engage in support of both causes.

  • The Candidate is a self-starter, capable of working with minimal oversight.

  • The Candidate understands they’re part of a “start-up” organization. As such, they should expect an all-hands-on-deck approach and that they may be asked to tackle items that aren’t specifically outlined in their job scope. All members of Zioness staff commit to being a team player who will fill in gaps as needed.

  • The Candidate understands that this isn’t a traditional nine-to-five role, and that there may be work needs beyond standard hours, including on weekends. 

  • The Candidate is well organized, detail-oriented, and professional. 

  • The Candidate is capable of performing in a fast-paced environment.

  • The Candidate commits to embodying the values of Zioness in public and private, during work hours and non-work hours, and commits to positively representing the organization at all times.

Preferred Qualifications For The Role:

  • The Candidate has prior community organizing or community engagement experience.

  • The Candidate has experience working directly with community members and ability to work with diverse populations.

  • The Candidate has experience working in underserved communities, experience working with populations from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, religious backgrounds.

  • The Candidate has experience working in a metrics driven, people focused program – and experience holding oneself and teammates accountable to challenging quantitative and qualitative programmatic goals.

  • The Candidate has the ability to analyze complex information and develop plans to address identified issues.

  • The Candidate has excellent time management skills, is well-organized, detail-oriented and able to work both independently and under minimal supervision.

  • The Candidate has strong interpersonal skills; Able to develop and maintain cooperative, professional and productive relationships with all levels of staff and volunteers.

  • The Candidate has the ability to deliver professional presentations and engage in public speaking, when required.

  • The Candidate can effectively recruit, train, and coordinate volunteer members. 

  • The Candidate can effectively build rapport with volunteer members. 

  • The Candidate has strong communication and writing skills and enjoys working directly with people. 

  • The Candidate is a confident Zionist who is comfortable expressing their Zionism, its relationship to their progressive identity, and its centrality to Jewish identity, even (and especially) at times where Zionism is being attacked.

Job Scope:

  • Support the National Organizing Team in the implementation of the Organization’s distributed organizing strategy - building localized groups across the country.

  • Serving as a public/community representative for the Zioness Organizing Team.

  • Working collaboratively with the Zioness Organizing team to implement all aspects of the community organizing plan in your local community.

  • Ensuring the development and maintenance of a wide range of current and new community relationships within your local community – building strong connections with residents, local leaders, faith-based leaders, business leaders, local schools, community based organizations, and allied partner organizations.

  • Developing events, organizing activities, strategy sessions, and trainings locally to engage community members, train activists on core organizing tactics and objectives, and build sustainable volunteer leadership at the local level.

  • Recruiting, leading and supervising volunteers – organizing the community at the neighborhood/chapter level; Building a program that is both challenging and rewarding for community activists – that drives towards programmatic goals.

  • Engaging directly in community engagement to hit regional topline goals, including: door-to- door and high traffic canvassing, phone banking, petitioning and flyering for community events.

  • Ensuring accurate collection and tracking of direct constituent outreach data – including but not limited to: event participant data, volunteer growth/retention numbers, phone bank and door-to-door canvassing attempts, Pledge for Progress campaign commitments, engagements with allied partners.

  • Collaborating on the development of curriculum, materials, and solution-focused work plans to accomplish core organizing and value-based objectives.
