CCNY Student Government Passes Resolution Condemning Antisemitism on Campus
The Undergraduate Student Government (USG) passed a resolution condemning antisemitism and adopting the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism. We know that the first step in combating antisemitism is defining it, on our terms. It is just as important that the definition is crafted by the Jewish community and then adopted by the institutions we participate in.
IHRA (International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance) is an intergovernmental organization whose focus is to educate the world on the Holocaust. With antisemitism on the rise, IHRA rose to the challenge and focused efforts on combatting this issue. They created an international consensus on this definition which has been adopted by governments, college campuses, and institutions worldwide.
Thanks to the hard work of student leaders of Hillel and Student Supporting Israel, Hillel staff, and student government members, USG at City College adopted this definition. We hope that this will make the CCNY campus a safer and more welcoming space for Jewish students in the years to come.
