About the Religious School
Beth El’s Religious School has around 70 learners in K-7th grades. We are a caring and inclusive community of meaningful and engaging learning that inspires a thirst for Jewish living and learning. Our school provides dynamic Jewish experiences using exciting and innovative methodologies, with an emphasis on skill-building and Jewish literacy, with a focus on Hebrew language; Torah and the Jewish calendar; prayer and Jewish music; Jewish values; and a relationship to Israel. Our teachers, learning specialists, and clergy create a nurturing environment for all learners so that Beth El becomes a second home, instilling a sense of belonging to our community and the Jewish people.
School Details:
Our religious school meets on Thursdays from 4-6 pm and on Sunday mornings from 9-11 am or 9-12 pm, depending on the grade. Staff may teach on both Sundays and Thursdays, or on only one day. They are expected to arrive 15 minutes before class starts, and stay through the end of dismissal (usually takes around 10 minutes). We also have faculty meetings occasionally after school.
In addition to classroom time, we also have a robust schedule of art, music, Shinshinim (Israeli youth on their gap years), children’s choir and tefillah.
Available Positions:
We have positions available for both our elementary and middle school grades on Sunday mornings. Educators can work on both Sundays and Thursdays, or only one day per week. Grade placement and scheduling will be discussed individually with candidates.
All positions require basic Hebrew decoding skills and familiarity with Conservative liturgy, as well as general familiarity with basic Torah stories, Jewish holidays and Jewish values. Specific areas of Jewish knowledge can be discussed individually.
Educators will write lesson plans for each class session with the support and guidance of the Director of Youth & Family Engagement, based on our curriculum, with plenty of room for your own interests, ideas and passions!
Compensation:
Compensation ranges from $5000-$11,000 (negotiable), depending on how many days/hours per week, as well as based on experience, higher education, and years working at Beth El’s Religious School. Educators earn 1 day of PTO per day they work per week (i.e. someone who teaches only Thursdays has one day of PTO).
If you need assistance in reaching Beth El from Manhattan, please let me know and we can discuss it.
How to Apply:
Please send your resume and an introductory email to Alyssa Berman, Director of Youth and Family Engagement at aberman@bethelnr.org. Feel free to also reach out with any questions.
